Family Law Often Exposes the Private Lives of Public People

Actor Mel Gibson and his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, a Russian pianist
and singer-songwriter, have hashed out a child support agreement. It was
been an ongoing battle that has been closely followed by the public and
media. When a child custody agreement is being decided, whether in Georgia
or another state, court officials keep the interest of the child as a
top priority.
According to officials, Grigorieva was awarded $750,000 in the settlement.
The two will split child custody of their 2-year-old daughter Lucia. They
will be able to spend an equal amount of time with the girl. When the
daughter turns 18, the home where the girl and Grigorieva are living will
be sold. The proceeds of the home will go into a trust established for
Lucia's care.
Gibson and Grigorieva slandered each other in the public eye before the
agreement was made. As part of the agreement, they now have to stay silent
about each other in front of the media. At one time, Gibson's ex-girlfriend
accused him of domestic violence and Gibson allegedly returned the allegations as well.
In Georgia and across the United States, divorce settlements involving
children try to cater to the wellbeing of the child. The child's needs
come first in any agreements discussed in court. Parents going through
this tough situation may benefit by working with an experienced attorney.
The lawyer may be able to help parents reach a satisfactory agreement
that supports the overall wellbeing of the child or children in the custody battle.
